Fakepilot.com is not a company website but the alter ego and personal site of designer Mattias Lindberg. Mattias Lindberg is based in Stockholm, Sweden and runs a creative company together with his partner called The International style. For the creation of "fakepilot.com" Lindberg used the programmes such as Photoshop, Flash and Poser in order to create various aspects of the site.
In recent years "fakepilot.com" has evoked interest from many designers. Lindberg's creative use of moving imagery along with his illustration and typography all combine to produce some extremely impressive visuals, providing "fakepilot.com" with a opening sequence and a online portfolio to be proud of. However, there are areas of the site that have been criticized by various designers. 'Dating back to an era that Flash was so new that actual design didn't really matter. We all went crazy for fancy flash skills. Luckily that has changed. ' is one criticism of the site I came across when looking at discussion forums. Although, typography rules are overlooked in order to make certain designs "look good," I would argue that for a personal site Lindberg should be able to express his experimental and exciting designs without the boundaries you would be faced with when working for a client. His various styles of animation seems unlimited and this can be seen within his portfolio. When producing work for Coca-cola and MTV, it is clear that he is capable of following the rules of "actual design", producing successful campaigns for each client- but then again how do you define "actual design"? When it comes to design we were taught to shake the boundaries and think 'outside of the box,' but just how far outside the box can we go?
I have become interested and have been made aware of this site and designer when learning Flash and I am inspired by his work. His use of sound, timing and illustration help to provide unique and inspiring visual imagery for flash adverts, banners, and website design.
